I work for Surrey County Council as a library project manager within the library service. I have been asked to research whether any libraries in the UK have used/are using donations boxes for collecting money to invest in "value added" aspects of the library service, rather than gifts of books. Very little information appears to be available on the internet.
If anyone out there has investigated using donations boxes themselves I would be most interested in knowing what the pros and cons evaluated were. The public relations reaction may be such that it is judged not to be worth the hassle, but it would be valuable to know others' experience.
