medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Friends,
Can anyone elucidate this ?
A few days ago there was a programme on British TV where two experts were
exploring the authenticity of a 19th century painting. The painting in
question was of "SAINT AMELIE" depicted as a mediaeval queen (accompanied by
ladies in waiting) presenting a wreath before an altar with (I think) a
crucifix on it.
A quick check of the Oxford Dic, and the Penguin Dic of Saints, plus a
couple of on-line dictionaries of saints - including the ever useful if out
of date Catholic Encyclopaedia - has found no trace of a St Amelie. Does
anyone know her story or indeed her authenticity?
