Yes, you have to measure methane as well as hydrogen to make sense of lactulose breath tests. We use a Quintron instrument and also measure carbon dioxide to check that we are dealing with alveolar breath samples. Highly recommended instrument, now on our second one in ten years. Lots of information on the net.
