Hi everyone,
apologies, I missed the first post in this thread, but those who know
me will know that I am intensely interested in any discussion about
power relations in design, only I have taken a feminist approach. As
Thea and Katherine hinted, I find it amusing that the use of 'we' can
mask the default 'men' in 'equality' debates.
I recommend Raewyn Connell's very useful analysis of what she calls
Northern theory, emanating from the metropolis of Northern Hemisphere
countries, eliding contributions to various disciplines from those in
the 'Global South', to which Luiza's post refers. Although it's not a
'design' text, I highly recommend it – she is an eminent gender
theory scholar and has written about hegemonic masculinity as well as
post-colonial theories. It's a basic foundational text for those
interested in global studies.

For now, this platform takes the shape of a blog; we are opening it
for researchers, students and practitioners from the Global South to
submit their work and to use it as a space for fruitful discussion and
growth.
Best,
Luiza Prado
