I agree totally that it wasn't an election between two parties, but we (or,
I imagine at least, you and a good few others) differ as regards whether
voters were being asked to vote on a "single proposed course of
action". As I said, I would think that many Remain folk would argue that
they were being asked to chose between _two_ proposed courses of action -
one being "to remain in the EU".
As a matter of interest, would you feel the same if we were not yet in the
EU, and the choice on the ballot paper was between "apply to join EU" and
"don't apply to join EU"? Would you then require that one of the possible
outcomes required a 40% vote, but the other didn't??
