Royal College of Art School of Humanities
in New York 13/14 June
The School of Humanities at London’s Royal College of Art will be in New York on 13-14 June to present new developments in its graduate programmes. The RCA’s School of Humanities offers interdisciplinary training in critical, curatorial, historical and theoretical approaches to art, design and architecture, at the heart of the world’s leading university of art and design (QS, 2015 & 2016) in London. Graduates take leadership roles in universities, museums and galleries, arts programming, journalism and publishing, or professions as independent researchers and writers. Two year MA programmes include Curating Contemporary Art, Critical Writing in Art and Design, and History of Design, run in partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum, another world-leading centre for scholarship and creativity.
In 2016/7, the School will launch MRes Humanities, a new and distinct one-year Master’s in Research programme that will foster experimentation, risk-taking and critical and creative thinking through humanities research. The V&A/RCA MA in History of Design will fully launch its new programme integrating practice-based, public-facing methods with design and material culture-led research.
Introducing the MRes and History of Design, Professor Jane Pavitt (Dean of Humanities) and Dr Sarah Teasley (Head of Programme, History of Design) will discuss:
Preparing for research and curatorial careers in the arts and humanities
Public-facing history approaches in the art school and museum
The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session.
This event is aimed at graduates and early- to mid-career professionals in art and
design-related humanities, gallery or museums work, or those considering a career transition into these areas.
For those interested in applying to the School’s MA or MRes programmes, one-to-one consultations with Professor Pavitt and Dr Teasley are also available on 13 June.
