The map sharpening optimisation is based on maximising the kurtosis of
the map. This is map dependent. It may be that the optimum for your map
falls outside the screened range and the maximum is no found (or yields
nonsense). Maybe you can send me (confidential of course) your map and
we can try to improve on our algorithm. In the meantime I am afraid you
will have to find the optimum manually by looking at the map (or let the
refinement program sharpen your map).
