Dear list members,
Just to add some further reassurance to this week’s conversation about changes to the BBC Food recipe pages. Here at BBC Archives we have captured the vast majority of bbc.co.uk in recent years with high quality crawls that include /food.
We have preserved 200 million pages in 16,000 separate crawls since 1994 to 2016. Alongside the crawls we have also archived thousands of AV, audio and image files published online, taken screencasts of sites to capture the look & feel, and we have archived wireframe and UXD documents so we have the context and background to our online development.
This material is not open to the public currently, and any public access to our web archives is the responsibility of the BBC’s editorial teams. However, as helpfully pointed out yesterday by Polly Russell, access to some archived copies of bbc.co.uk are available via the British Library. Once the finer details of the BBC's Online Creative Review are made clear, BBC Archives will look to crawl/screencast more targeted areas, if any major changes are planned, in order to preserve the pages.
