Dear All
This is a generous and fabulous means to share expertise, I thank you for your time and knowledge in facilitating this forum . Many of the questions and answers shared so far have been beneficial to us “watching”.
Our research group consists of researchers in Ageing in Australia and the Netherlands. We are new to this methodology and hence have some questions to put to you all to assist our group in conceptualizing and progressing our realist review.
Our research question is “To explore how Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment and Management in primary care works, why it works, for whom and in what context ?”
We have identified 2 theories to use within our review ( Extended Chronic Care Model, (Barr et al, 2003) and Implementation theory ( May 2011 ))
We are are looking for clarity on how theories are used at different levels in a realist review, specifically
• We still do not know exactly where to position these in the realist evaluation framework (perhaps they can serve as our “substantive theories”)?
• It is also not clear to us whether theory (or theories) inform the review or are the result of the review in explaining findings ?
• Is it correct that rough theory and refined theory are generated going back and forth between theory and empirical result?
We are very grateful for any advice and or direction you can suggest
Kind Regards
Ms Karrie Long
