LAST CHANCE TO APPLY
RESEARCH FELLOW / SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW IN SUSTAINABLE DESIGN - https://vacancies.ntu.ac.uk/displayjob.aspx?jobid=2488
I’m looking to appoint a researcher in Sustainable Design, and would welcome applications from people with varied levels of experience, from highly experienced researchers to people with research experience but without a PhD. Salary scales range accordingly, from £26,537-£30,738 p.a. (Grade G) and £31,656-£35,609 p.a. (Grade H) for Research Fellows to £36,672-£46,414 per annum (Grade I) for Senior Research Fellows.
Applicants wishing to work on a part-time basis or secondment basis will be considered. The posts are funded for up to 2 years, with the possibility of extension subject to external funding. The successful applicants will join a team of researchers based in the Centre for Industrial Energy, Materials and Products (CIE-MAP), a five year, £6m Research Council-funded initiative to reduce the use of energy-intensive materials, including steel, aluminium and plastics, as a means of achieving lower carbon emissions.
The post-holder will be required to critically review current guidelines aimed at promoting design for longevity in consumer goods markets, and to develop criteria to enable designers to assess the effects of increased product longevity (e.g. through durability/repair/upgrading) upon energy and materials consumption. S/he will use case studies to explore trade-offs when designing products for lower materials consumption, such as between
i. reduced materials use (e.g. light weighting, thin walls) and greater use of materials to ensure durability,
ii. embodied carbon in products and energy consumed during use, and
iii. designing products for greater durability and the recyclability of products at end of life.
