Professor / Associate Professor and Head of Discipline, *Design*

Established in 1881, the Queensland College of Art
<http://jobview.careerone.com.au/professor-associate-professor-and-head-of-discipline-design-163623908.aspx>(QCA)
is one of Australia's oldest and among its largest Art Academies. The
Queensland College of Art, incorporating the Griffith Film School, is a
thriving community of photographers, artists, designers, and film-makers
and plays a significant role in shaping the state of Queensland and
Australia's art and design culture.

The Queensland College of Art (QCA) is seeking to appoint a prominent
designer and/or design academic to lead a reformation of its new Design
Programs. The position of Head of Design involves leadership of QCA's
undergraduate and postgraduate Design programmes to build on QCA's
reputation for progressive teaching and research, and to shape design
practitioners for the complex challenges of the 21st Century.

The new-look organisation of Design at QCA brings together over 600 design
and digital media students across two of Griffith University's campuses:
the South Bank cultural precinct, on the banks of the Brisbane River, and
at Southport on Queensland's Gold Coast.

Design hosts a comprehensive range of majors, including graphics, interior,
product, industrial, fashion, digital and interactive media. Design
research at QCA reflects engagement across this range of fields presenting
opportunities for the integration of graphic design in innovative
applications and interdisciplinary contexts. Design researchers at QCA are
engaged in range of cutting edge activities including experimental
typography, environmental graphics, digital media communications and 3D
Digital Fabrication. The digital media research area was part of a grouping
awarded a rating of "above world standard" in the 2015 round of Excellence
in Research Australia (ERA) research quality assessments. There is a strong
focus on sustainable design practices, with theory, community design
enablement and agile methodologies are also key areas of investigation.

The successful appointee will be capable of leading an energetic youthful
group of exciting design practitioners and researchers, developing
world-class innovative approaches to design learning, and fostering
cutting-edge research. This person will be a key member of QCA's
multi-disciplinary Executive Leadership Team, working together with QCA's
Director actively contributing to the development of one of Australia's
leading and rapidly developing Art, Design and Film colleges.

The appointment is offered within the range: Professor / Associate
Professor. The level of appointment will be determined by the successful
candidate's qualifications, demonstrated experience in professional and
academic areas and fit of profile in respect of leadership capacity.

This is a continuing, full time position based at the South Bank and Gold
Coast campuses.

Salary Range:
Professor, Level E: $169,779 per annum . Salary package including 17%
employer superannuation contribution: $198,642 per annum.
