There seems to be a radical confusion between answers to problems and answers that humans see as answers to problems. The affect of an answer is as significant to a human when it satisfies the problem as when it does not satisfy the problem. That's why lies can work.
The experience of the affect of an answer is its own satisfaction. If perplexed consciousness is free to move on, it may discover the answer was wrong but it can do nothing much without an affect. In the absence of an satisficing emotion, it will produce an affect, such as boredom, or more usefully, speculation as a gesture - call this move, hypothesis forming.

Heuristics are very different from the claim that there is a “human tendency to want simple answers and straightforward linear causality.” The latter strikes me as a very dangerous assumption to make when trying to determine how best to negotiate sociotechnical complexities.
