Thank you for your comments and reflections. I 'll check up on your
references and suggestions, which I find very interesting.
As I mentioned, I was asking a hypothetical question - possibly an
intellectual one. I got a very nice and scientific response. I will
leave it at that.
Since Eduardo's comment on the "burial service for semiotics", I tried
to operated on his division of researchers into the intellectual kind
and the scientific kind. I find myself, as this discussion has rolls
further, traveling on an axis between being an intellectual and a
scientist. I myself prefer being the latter.
I would like sum up my experience by stating that every scientist has
their (bad?) moments, and hopefully also every intellectual :)
