Hi Michael
We perform all our CSF Xanth in-house using the UVIKON spectrophotometer which has interpretative software. We also have CSF samples referred to us from other labs.
They are all performed by a BMS, second checked by a BMS and authorised by a BMS. If the BMS is unsure about the interpretation they are brought to one of the scientists.
We process them twice/day, once in the morning and once in the late afternoon, during core hours we may also process them ad hoc on a consultant to biochemist basis. I did an audit at Nottingham which found that OOHs CSF Xanth rarely helps facilitate early discaharge of patients, mainly due to administrative barriers, indeed our consultant here agrees and hence we do not offer OOHs analysis.
The UVIKON is very good and I would be happy to share our SOP that I did if you end up getting this one.
Thanks
Stephen
