Eduardo,
Thanks for the link. Archie Boston did a bunch of interviews (mainly with Los Angeles designers) and all that I've seen are interesting; the ones with Saul Bass are particularly great. Not surprising, I suppose, since Saul was probably the most engaging conversationalist I've ever known. (Saul, of course, didn't think aesthetic appeal was the *only* evidence of success but he understood that it was an important one.)
Saul's project manager Dick Huppert (a very interesting guy; he had previously worked with Noyes and Rand at IBM) taught me project management and told the story of the Minolta trademark project. Bass/Yager always set formal criteria for a trademark before showing any visual work and used them throughout the process of design and client discussions. Minolta made a range of products from cameras to copy machines but communicating themes of light and vision emerged as the main criteria. Dick said the client then added one that no client had ever mentioned: "It must be a thing of great beauty."
As to troglodytes, I can never remember. Are they the ones that hang from the top of the cave or are those the troglomytes?
