Dear all,
Next week's colloquium (3rd Feb, 5pm) will be given by Dr Laura Tunbridge
(Associate Professor, University of Oxford):
'Stockpiling Schubert'
'This paper examines the impact of recording technologies on the
consumption and interpretation of Schubert's songs in New York and London
during the interwar period. It suggests that it was during this a "complete
works" ethos began to be fostered, a phenomenon made evident in the
marketing strategies of record companies, and efforts among musicians to
explore a wider range of repertoire by the composer. It also considers the
way in which new technologies encouraged the evaluation of performances in
terms of realism and synchronization'.
Please do join us at 5pm next Wednesday (3rd February) in the Recital Room
of the Faculty of Music, West Road, Cambridge. As usual, the colloquium
will be followed by drinks in the Faculty foyer.
We hope to see many of you there.
