Hi Fiona
We use subject teachers to take registers in our main exam rooms and invigilators take them in the small rooms. That is all we allow subject staff to do and they scuttle off as soon as they are done. As you say though, there is no way we have staff who can positively identify EVERYONE taking an exam. The students have exam cards on their desks that are printed with their photos and candidate number and the exam being taken so those can be checked if staff don’t actually teach the student they are marking off the register. Our students are supposed to bring their student ID cards to exams but that doesn't happen. I think our system is adequate and have never been challenged by an inspector so I will wait to see if it is an issue this year before I go to huge lengths to change anything.

Subject: People Present in the Exam Room
Hi,
I'd welcome anyone's thoughts on the change to the JCQ Notice to Centres 'The people present in the exam room'.
We have cohort sizes that require seating in mutiple rooms so have always relied on subject teachers to assist with the identification of any students (and there are always some!) who forget their college ID. This has worked extremely well, teachers have known exactly what their role is and we've had no incidents of them over stepping the mark so I can't understand why the regs have now been changed. In a centre with over 3000 students there is no way that SMT would be able to know even a fraction of the students well enough to confirm identification (similarly the 2 Exams staff!). Does anyone have any suggestions as I have to confess I'm stumped!!
Thanks in anticipation.
