Second Call for Papers: The Association for French Language Studies conference 2016 will take place from 20-22 June 2016 at Queen’s University Belfast, UK.

Confirmed plenaries/Conférences plénières confirmées:

Myriam Bras (Toulouse II)

Philippe Hambye (Louvain-la-Neuve)

Martin Howard (University College Cork)

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘French as a shared language / Le français partagé’. In a period of significant population movement, it is timely to focus on the impact of mobility, migration and contact, both synchronically and diachronically. This impact is felt in a number of ways, not least on the evolution of the language itself (its lexis, syntax, morphology and phonology), on its usage in a variety of domains, on the identities of its speakers and on their attitudes towards the French language. Within francophone contexts, rural depopulation and the growth of super- diverse urban communities are also playing a role in shaping the French language, for example, in the form of supra-regional or new urban varieties.

We invite papers that address any topic in the broad area of ‘Le français partagé’ or that fall within the areas traditionally covered by AFLS. Papers taking a wide variety of theoretical and methodological approaches are welcome. Conference papers may be delivered in either English or French, with the abstract in the language of the presentation. Speakers will be given 30 minutes for oral papers (20 minutes plus 10 minutes for questions). Anonymised abstracts of 300 words should be submitted before the 25th January 2016 via: http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/afls2016

Please visit the conference website at http://blogs.qub.ac.uk/afls2016 for further information, or contact [log in to unmask]
