Yes, we're feeling the same here, Christopher. Not helped by massive 'redundancies' across the ALS team. I have worked with the one specialist teacher we have in helping to streamline the whole process. It's vital you rely on referrals and set a clear deadline for these to come through from your curriculum areas to the ALS team you have. GCSE learners a priority like you due to volume. We have obtained where possible all existing Form 8s from the schools and are using this as contributing evidence but will be reassessing the learners and creating a new Form 8 if they link to a valid referral from the curriculum area indicating the learner is still in need of support. No referral = no EAAs is the message we are communicating to staff for GCSE learners.

Subject: Access Arrangements
Hi All,
We are looking at reviewing our access arrangement procedures due to the increase in student requirements for GCSE qualifications.
This question has probably come up before but:
Can I ask, do any centres accept and use specialists assessments completed at schools, or do they have all students re-assessed by their own specialist assessor? In relation to GCSE English and Maths
Do you apply different rules to vocational qualifications or functional skills, as we have always applied the JCQ rules as a “Gold Standard” across all qualifications
We currently have all students reassessed, but shortage of time is an issue.
Any advice/guidance would be appreciated. Access arrangements are no longer the responsibility of the Exam department but we are still asked for our advice.
Kind Regards
Christopher Hazlewood
