Hi Charlotte
I've attached 3 articles here - the Garrett et al looks like it should have something on NA attitudes towards British English, but I confess I haven't read it in a while. The Bayard et al is a good one for US English, but it doesn't address British English at all.
The Marlow & Giles is from Hawaii, so perhaps not an area that's typically included in a lecture on English in NA, but I've used it for something similar.
And for a different angle, you could look at AAVE or similar. This clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX1-FgkfWo8 gives lots to talk about re educational responses, and there's absolutely loads available on this area.
Hope this helps
Fiona

Hi everyone,
At fairly short notice I have to teach a lecture, as part of a third year world englishes module, on English in North America.
I don't suppose anyone can suggest any good resources etc?!?
In particular I was hoping to locate some information on perceptions/attitudes held by US/Canadian's towards British English and/or other varieties of English?!?any suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thank you

Hi Charlotte
you might take a look at Finegan & Rickford's (2004) 'Language in the USA.
Themes for the 21st century' CUP -- an edited collection. The first couple
chapters focus on American English, though not on attitudes toward British
English.
I wrote a book review many years ago, and you can have a look at it on my
Academia profile (at this link:

)
I hope this is of some help. Best wishes,
Federica
