Dear All,
Our Gastroenterology, dietician and pharmacy colleagues at Leeds have asked me to enquire whether any hospitals out there have a protocol for iv and oral replacement of Vitamin A (with and without Vitamin E) for patients with chronic deficiency due to malabsorption and / or poor compliance with oral vitamin supplements.
The patient groups include bariatric surgery patients lost to follow-up and presenting with visual disturbances, patients referred to the neuroendocrine service for assessment of metastatic disease who have previously had major intestinal surgery with no previous nutrition monitoring / support and patients with long-standing GI disease who are being assessed for home parenteral nutrition.
I would be very grateful for any protocols on dosing, frequency of monitoring during replacement therapy and frequency of monitoring therafter.
Please reply directly to me and I will be very happy to share any information received with interested parties.
Thanks very much in advance.
Kind Regards,
Carys Lippiatt
