Doctoral Research in Musicology at Birmingham Conservatoire
AHRC funding for UK/EU Doctoral Research Students
The Midlands3Cities Doctoral Training Partnership will be awarding 410 PhD studentships over a five year period to excellent research students in the arts and humanities. The DTP, a collaboration between Birmingham City University, De Montfort University, Leicester University, Nottingham University, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Birmingham, provides research candidates with cross-institutional mentoring, expert supervision including cross-institutional supervision where appropriate, subject specific and generic training, and professional support in preparing for a career.
Birmingham Conservatoire (Birmingham City University) is inviting applications from students whose research interests include:
* French Music (as part of our French Music Research Hub), notably:
o Charpentier (Shirley Thompson)
o Rameau and Lully (Graham Sadler)
o Ravel and Milhaud (Deborah Mawer)
o Messiaen (Christopher Dingle)
* Contemporary Film and Television Music, Theory and Analysis (Janet K. Halfyard)
* Late Medieval Music, Theory and Critical Editing (Ronald Woodley)
* Italian Baroque Music (Carrie Churnside)
* Music Critics and Criticism (Christopher Dingle)
* Jazz Studies (Deborah Mawer, Hans Koller, Nick Gebhardt and Tony Whyton)

The deadline for AHRC funding applications is 12th January 2016, at which time students must have applied for a place to study and have provided details of two references. The funding application should normally be submitted at the same time as the application for a place to study.
