Dear Helena,
In my doctoral researching, the practical applicability of theoretical
results culminated in the design of some products. What probably makes it
particularly is the setting in which it is located: the tribute to
someone *post
mortem*. This work was motivated by the death of my sister (Helena) in
2012. Its equation put on one side the intricate set of emotions that this
type of product can generate, and in the other, the components match more
accessible and concerning the form, function and object interactions with
users, and the environment of use. In my last chapter of the doctoral
thesis (2015) I wrote about the products that belong to this type of
objects that are intended to remind a person and containing an inscription
or epitaph in honor and in memory of a dead person, usually placed on his
grave. This product belongs to a category of artifacts that are in outdoor
of cemeterial units mainly appearing in Europe's southern countries.
Generally made of marble or granite rock, usually have the form of a plate
or tablet, or open book rolled sheet. In front have have a photograph of
the person they wish to honor and registration (name, date of birth /
death) or phrases from family, friends or colleagues, engraved. My goal was
to design innovative products that respond to the needs, desires and
behaviors of a new group of users / consumers.
I wish your research goes well and I am ready to share with you the recent
and future work I intend to continue developing.
Best regards,
João Martins
