2016 Illinois Medieval Association Conference
Call for Papers
February 26-27, 2016
Millikin University
Decatur, IL
Plenary Speaker: Dr. Meriem Pagθs, Keene State College
We are pleased to announce the 33rd annual conference of the Illinois Medieval Association. Since 1983, the Illinois Medieval Association has brought together medievalists from Illinois and surrounding regions. We invite papers and complete sessions on any aspect of the 2016 conference theme: medievalism.
According to Leslie Workman, considered to be the movement's founder medievalism is the continuing process of creating the Middle Ages. Tom Shippey has added to this definition by stating that medievalism is any post-medieval attempt to re-imagine the Middle Ages, or some aspect of the Middle Ages, for the modern world, in any of many different media; in academic usage, the study of the development and significance of such attempts. Topics may include, but certainly are not limited to
Film
Television
Visual art
Games
Online communities
Live Action Role Playing (LARP)
Literature
Scholarship
Historiography
Music
Papers should be limited to 20 minutes. Sessions will be scheduled for 90 minutes, allowing for 3 20-minute paper presentations and discussion.
Please submit abstracts (250 words maximum) as attached MS Word or RTF files to
Dr. Timothy Kovalcik ([log in to unmask])
Abstracts are due by November 15, 2015.
The Illinois Medieval association publishes selected papers presented at the conference in our proceedings journal, Essays in Medieval Studies, published annually by the West Virginia University Press via Project Muse. There will be a call for submissions at the conference.
