Dear all,
I am somehow reminded of a part of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy that goes something like: They engage the improbability drive and suddenly an infinite number of monkeys appear that wish to discuss a movie script they have made based on the collected works of Shakespeare.
There is also the story of the professor who wanted to test the infinite monkey theory, but had limited budget so he only had 1000 monkeys with typewriters. After a few years he found a paper with the text ”Friends, romans, countrymen, lend me xysmx sdffdlwelflsdl, sdflsdfs fffwwfer”. Perhaps this is what would happen to Gunnar? Will it prove something?
Mathematical infinity is a great tool for some calculations, but is often of limited practical value.
I believe that already a few hundred years BC Indian mathematicians subdivided the category into "nearly infinite, truly infinite, infinitely infinite”. As if that would help.
There are also some mathematical problems with the idea that all possible designs would be possible to calculate; it assumes for instance that options are discreet. Otherwise the computer would loop forever, perhaps even on the first question, which could be for instance ”what is the ideal screen size of an iPad?”. (Other obstacles are Gödel’s theorem, which in this context, states that there will be designs in the solution space, that it is impossible to evaluate. And you can’t get around Gödel, not even with Apple’s next-next-next processor.)
So we humans will most likely be stuck, infinitly, with making limited choices with limited information.
Med Vänlig Hälsning/Best Regards,
Lars Albinsson

Terry,
This is interesting speculation. Is there a way of doing this on a small scale so dumb pragmatists like me can point to a solid example of success?
