Newsletter, September 2015
The IMR, formerly part of the School of Advanced Studies, is now
supported by Royal Holloway, University of London, and directed by Dr.
Geoff Baker. It continues to be based at Senate House in central London.
The institute aims to serve the national community of music researchers,
and its steering committee and advisory board consist of scholars from
across the UK, representing a variety of branches of music studies.
New website
The IMR's new website, http://www.the-imr.uk, provides details of the
institute's activities and services. It is also intended to serve as a
hub for information about events in music studies across the UK.

Early career research events
The IMR put out a call for applications from early career scholars to
organise small conferences, workshops, or networking events in
collaboration with music departments and colleges around the UK. This
new scheme reflects the IMR's aim to facilitate the transition of
scholars from graduate study to careers inside and outside academia.
Details of the 2015-16 events can be found here:
http://www.the-imr.uk/early-career-research-events.
Fellowships
The successful applicants to the above scheme have been appointed as IMR
Early Career Fellows. Some Honorary Research Fellowships/Associateships
will also be available for senior scholars.
Research training reading group
The research training reading group, "Classic texts in music and
culture," is convened by Professor Anahid Kassabian, who is an Honorary
Research Fellow of the IMR.
Services to researchers
The IMR offers to host small- or medium-scale research events (one-day
conferences, seminars, workshops, networking meetings, book launches,
impact events, etc.) at Senate House in central London for free or low
cost, and provide publicity and basic administrative support. See
