Dear colleagues,
We have come across a weird potentially "incised" tooth -- what we think is a heavily worn Bison incisor (basically the root with the crown worn away) that has a series of parallel lines (incisions?) running up to the crown. Under the microscope, we do not see striations that would clearly indicate engraving (human modification) but it looks like some secondary processes also altered the tooth.
I have posted photos on Bone Commons:

Has anyone seen anything like this? It is from a Late Pleistocene site in France.
Thank you for any thoughts,
Teresa Steele
