SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS FOR THE 2016 SAA ANNUAL CONFERENCE: New Methods
in Zooarchaeology
At the recent Zooarchaeology Interest Group (ZIG) meeting during the
2015 SAA annual conference there was overwhelming interest expressed
in new zooarchaeological methods, technologies and databases. This
year ZIG will be sponsoring a session highlighting new and ongoing
research in these areas and we invite papers from interested
participants.
The next SAA conference will be held in Orlando, Florida from April
6-10, 2016. Sessions must be submitted by September 10, so we ask for
possible participants to email us with a short abstract by August 21.
Please see the session abstract below and feel free to share with
others.
Conventional zooarchaeological methods are critical and serve as a
fundamental baseline towards generating robust data, yet these
frameworks may not always be applicable to various datasets.
Furthermore, zooarchaeologists are continuously developing new
techniques and procedures to further enhance our understanding of
faunal assemblages through time and across space. This session serves
to present ongoing and new approaches and methodologies. Examples
include, but are not limited to, age/sex, use of
isotopes/DNA/ZooMS/photogrammetry/SEM, development of databases, and
other models to analyze datasets. The session ultimately aims to
synthesize dynamic discussions among the zooarchaeology community.
