University Lecturer/Senior University Lecturer in Spatial and Service Design

Job description
The teaching and research field of the lectureship is spatial and service design. The lecturer is expected to address on the joint effect of physical space and flexible provisioning of services. The lecturer´s duties encompass the teaching of design of housing and service systems as well as the skills needed to carry out academic research. The lecturer is expected to conduct research in the fields of spatial and service design and to participate in multidisciplinary development and research projects. Overall approximately 20-30 % of the work time can be allocated for the lecturer´s own academic research activities.
The lecturer will mainly teach in Master's Programme in Product and Spatial Design and guide and assess student assignments and thesis works and take part in the student selections when needed. In addition, the lecturer is expected to participate in the development of design education, research and artistic activities as well as lead and guide projects at the Department of Design.
Requirements
The job requires good knowledge of the spatial and service design fields and capability to conduct high-level research related to these fields. Experience of combining user-centered approach and spatial design is highly desirable. Project coordination and co-operation skills are essential, as the lecturer is expected to operate flexibly and open-mindedly in the ever-evolving multidisciplinary field of design.
The lecturer is required to have a doctoral degree or comparable artistic-professional qualifications and good teaching skills and wished to possess suitable artistic-professional competency and practical work experience in the fields of spatial and service design. Pedagogic training and other merits relevant to the field of the lectureship are regarded an advantage. Fluent communication skill in English is essential, Finnish and Swedish language skills are an advantage. Being acquainted with the international fields of spatial and service design is recommendable.
Salary and working time
Salary will be determined upon competence and experience of the chosen person following the salary system of Finnish universities. Teaching personnel belong to the total working hours system, working 1600 hours annually.

The Departmental Committee will choose applicants to visit the Department of Design and to give teaching demonstrations during fall 2015.
