The Department of Music, seeks to appoint a lecturer in Popular Music Composition to join a thriving centre for teaching and research in popular music, composition, and music for film and AV.
You will work on the popular-music programme to develop students’ practical musicianship. You should have experience of group teaching in Higher Education with expertise in at least one of the following areas: core musical skills (musical literacy, modes and scales, pop and jazz harmony); song-writing; fluency in popular idioms and styles; improvisation; ability to teach instrumental composition in addition to vocal-based songs. Responsibilities would include leading interactive workshops and providing artistic directions for bands and individuals, with possible cross-over into Classical.
You would initially support our Head of Popular Music Performance and Head of Composition in their teaching, with a view to developing independent modules in the future. The post is available on a 0.5 FTE basis.
