Role:
To provide general assistance to members of the Global Support Services department. Support will be provided to Route Engineering, Permitting and Charting/GIS. This will involve the updating of various Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases and marine cable charts, assisting the permitting manager in obtaining relevant operational and system permits for cable ships and cables and supporting the Route Engineering department with GIS data analysis, report writing and cable routeing using hydrographic survey information.
This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to be involved in a multi-disciplinary team within a leading international company supporting the offshore Telecoms, Marine renewables energy and oil and gas markets.
Key Deliverables:
• Assist the permitting manager with all environmental and legislative issues surrounding submarine cable installation and maintenance. Assist with obtaining the relevant permits
• Provide input into route engineering desk top study reports
• Carry out top level cable route engineering using GIS software
• Operation of computer mapping system and GIS software
• Updating of submarine cable databases and diagrams
• Produce project related maps and charts
Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
Required
• Qualification in suitable ‘Earth/Marine Sciences’ course
• Excellent technical report writing skills
• Familiarity with GIS software such as Intergraph GeoMedia, ESRI ArcGIS or Mapinfo.
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Computer literate, with experience of technical software programs
• Ability to learn new skills and a keenness to develop
• An attention to detail and a logical approach
Desirable
• Familiarity with marine cable installation work
• Familiarity with offshore renewable industry
• Familiarity with marine hydrographic survey
• Understanding of marine territorial boundaries
• Familiarity with databases, data processing and data management
