Actually, the I-index correlates quite well with the total bilirubin concentration and the H-index correlates quite well with the hemoglobin concentration (based on spiking with hemolysate for interference studies). There have been several publications showing the relatively poor correlation of the L-index (or, preferably, T-index) and the triglyceride concentration. The L- or T-index actually measures turbidity (thus my preference for the term T-index). Most increases in turbidity are due to triglyceride rich lipoproteins, thus the commonly used term L-index. Most of the interference by increased lipoproteins is due to their light scattering (turbidity), although there may be instances where lipophilic analytes or reagents dissolve in the lipoprotein particles.

I'm amazed the correlation in your graph is as good as it is, bearing in mind you're measuring something completely different! I wonder how well the I and H indices would correlate with bilirubin/haemoglobin - probably not that much better.

We have lowered our L-index cut-off to 2 and we are still missing lipaemic samples. The answer would be to lower it further so I would be grateful if you can share with me the different L-index cut-off that you use for the different analytes and if this was confirmed by some investigations.
