Hello all,
We're reviewing our proceedures for the collection of urine for the various biogenic amines. The literature (including this mailbase!) is not entirely clear on what acid (if any) is suitable for 5-hydroxy indoleacetic acid. I've personally seen at least three different sets of requirements when moving between trusts pre- and post-registration, so I suspect there's quite a diversity of approaches out there. A previous post listed approximately five different criteria, but that was fifteen years ago.
Would people be willing to share their sample requirements for 24 hour urines for 5-HIAA please? (Ideally name, volume and concentration of acid). If you could share your reasoning too, that may well be enlightening! I will of course collate any replies and share back here.
Many thanks,
Alan.
