Dear Zooarchers,
I also had the suspicion that some of the rhino molars in my site were
knapped. This is the cave site of Geißenklösterle in the Swabian Jura in
SW-Germany, Aurignacian. I first refitted them carefully and was proud
to have an almost complete lower dentition, but after finding very fine
flakes from cave bear canines from the Gravettian in Hohle Fels (another
cave in the Ach valley) I became suspitious about the rhino teeth.
Flaked enamel and also dentine has prperties like silex. It would be
nice to compile examples..........
Best Susanne
