Hello wise and generous RAMESES group,
I am an organizational studies scholar working in the Canadian health care setting. I am new to the conversation re: realist evaluations and trying to grasp some of the concepts.
I've been thinking a lot about Actor Network Theory (reading Latour, Law, Mol), Activity Theory (Engestrom), other socio-material approaches to research (I've been reading Gherardi, Niccolini re: their approaches to studying safety in organizations, as well as Bleakley re: health professional education) and social learning theories (reading Wegner-Trayner re: 'learning in landscapes of practice').
I *think* I see some coherence between what I've been reading about socio-material, practice based research with what I've been reading about realist evaluations.
When I did a quick search for anyone that has been writing about the two together, I only found two references, one of them being: Greenhalgh, T., Macfarlane, F., Barton-Sweeney, C., & Woodard, F. (2012). "If We Build It, Will It Stay?" A Case Study of the Sustainability of Whole-System Change in London. The Milbank Quarterly, 90(3), 516-547.
Does anyone on this list have some recommended readings about the commensurability (or lack thereof) of sociomaterial theories (such as Actor Network Theory, Activity Theory) and realist evaluation?
Many thanks in advance for your direction,
Paula
