Audio-Visual Archives Conference
The British Library, London, 18-19 July 2015
Collections of materials relating to audio-visual processes and products take various forms ranging from the multitrack reels of film-score recording sessions in the Trevor Jones Archive at the University of Leeds to the Muir Mathieson papers and other film-related manuscripts at the British Library to the scores and other documents in the Warner Brothers' Archive in California. This two-day conference brings together scholars and students working with audio-visual archives to address some of the fundamental issues surrounding the use of such collections, and to explore current research in screen music that draws on archival resources. The conference is organised as part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded research project The Professional Career and Output of Trevor Jones, http://www.trevorjonesfilm.leeds.ac.uk, based at the University of Leeds, and is in association with the British Library.
We have two special screening sessions as part of this event:
Friday 17 July, 7.00-9.45pm - Still Alice
As a prelude to the conference we are showing the 2014 film Still Alice. The film will be preceded by an interview with the composer Ilan Eshkeri and live performance of parts of the score by members of the London Metropolitan Orchestra. This session and screening event is also open to the public, tickets are £7 and can be booked here<http://store.leeds.ac.uk/browse/extra_info.asp?compid=1&modid=1&deptid=1&catid=94&prodid=5305>.
Saturday 18 July, 4.45-7.45pm - In the Name of the Father
The first day of the conference concludes with a screening of the 1993 picture In the Name of the Father, with a score by Trevor Jones. Ahead of the film there will be a short illustrated lecture by the research team on the AHRC-funded project The Professional Career and Output of Trevor Jones, introducing and using unique archival materials from the film-scoring process. This session and screening event is also open to the public, tickets are £7 (free to conference delegates with passes including Saturday) and can be booked here<http://store.leeds.ac.uk/browse/extra_info.asp?compid=1&modid=1&deptid=1&catid=94&prodid=5306>.
A display of materials from the British Library's collections will also be on show during the conference.
Further details, including the full conference programme, information about public film screenings, and details of how to register can be found on the conference website: http://www.trevorjonesfilm.leeds.ac.uk/av-archives-conference/.
