Dear colleagues,
We have an opening for a PhD position in experimental rock mechanics
at GFZ Potsdam. It would be great if you could forward the information
to those seeking a position.

PhD position in experimental rock mechanics, GFZ Potsdam
We invite applications for a 3 year PhD position in the GFZ German
Research Centre for Geosciences, section 3.2 Geomechanics and Rheology.
The project is part of a work package under a larger EU Horizon 2020
project titled: "Maximizing the EU shale gas potential by minimizing its
environmental footprint".
Our work package aims to characterize the long-term healing behavior of
organic-rich shales and understand the physical mechanism responsible
for the healing behavior. The student will mainly work in the laboratory
conducting experiments to (1) measure long-term fracture permeability
evolution in shales, (2) characterize the ductile constitutive properties
of shales, and (3) observe evidences of deformation mechanisms
through microscope in-situ experiments. GFZ provides state-of-the-art
experimental and analytical facilities, allowing to characterize the
mechanical properties, flow properties, and microstructure. The student
is expected to work in close cooperation with our partners from academia
and industry.
