Nowadays, specially regarding complex technological products that gather user information and user-generated content, people should be particularly wary of the fact that they are inevitably lab rats (paying lab rats).
The problem is not when such companies like Facebook, Google or OK Cupid nudge their algorithms. The problem is the ignorance behind the false expectation that they won't do it.
The issue with OK Cupid is symptomatic (and hilarious), because they duped people into thinking that they had a sophisticated matching algorithm when it was mostly random, still people got outraged when they changed it.
What people are actually afraid of is change.
