Nobody said anything about military regimentation or even rules.
It's a matter of culture, and habit makes culture.
What I was trying to say is that placing subjects under their proper headings is a good habit. It facilitates access to the conversation matter and it fosters focus on the subject.
If this was a discussion list for idle banter, I would probably not hold this opinion.
Furthermore, I can't see how encouraging people to open new threads and create new discussions qualifies as "criticising for joining the conversation".
And after all, user discretion is always advised. People still have the responsability of assessing if what they want to say pertains to that subject. (Hence my post scriptum)
