medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Rosemary
Back in the early 1980's when I was a curate in St Albans Diocese the youth of the diocese went on pilgrimage to the Cathedral, often stopping overnight in church halls etc, and culminating on the day with a big service in the Cathedral.
I went to that, but did not, I am ashamed to report, actually walk the walk!

As we have been celebrating Britain's proto-martyrs, the list may be pleased to know a bit about the Alban-tide revival going on in St Albans - reports of the pilgrimage below, sent to us by a friend.

See attached stuff re Albantide. You really must get here for this before too long.
Pilgrimage was marvellous but exhausting http://www.demotix.com/photo/7906672/thousands-line-street-st-albans-pilgrimage
The procession ran the length of St Peters Street and there were about 1600 at the pilgrimage Eucharist of whom about 1000 stayed on for the Festival Evensong at which the Abp of Rouen preached, in French so his sermon was printed in English in the service booklet.

The thurifer in photo 1 is our friend to whose ordination (as deacon) service in Southwark Cathedral we are going on Saturday.
And I know I might be biased, but if you want to hear Anglican liturgy at its absolute best may I refer you to Choral Evensong from the Abbey broadcast on Radio 3 yesterday and available on iPlayer for the next 4 weeks.
