Dear all
I am truly enjoying this thread. Thank you for the contributions, which demonstrate we indeed have a community, filled with people that care.
One thing worth considering is that one can strongly disagree, have conflicting views, drip with enthusiasm, have a heart full of passion and still be capable of delivering it all respectfully.
These things can coexist without in any way hurting the opportunity to create new knowledge while engaging in strong, deep, meaningful debate. I have seen this happen in many places, including this list.
May I suggest that as members of this community we all take on the responsibility of role modeling respect as well as respectfully intervening when disrespect takes place, regardless of involved parties and content?
"Assuming responsibility" might be the simple magic trick we all need to be reminded of.
Best,

Subject: Re: Respect
To my mind most academic fields are full of disagreements, enthusiasm and passion and this tends to play out in conflicts. Some conflicts are real and fundamental. It is easy to overstep. I did my errors. I believe you cannot remove the conflicts without castrating the field but we can try to keep our heads cool.
Maybe the list needs some more active and gentle moderation?
