Colin,

Another way would be to use marcedit's batch z3950 search against your server. Feed it a list of isbns and it brings back all the hits, and produces a list of misses. The only issue with this method is that it will not pull back suppressed records and does not pull back the .b record no if you are looking to overwrite on import.

I have a perl script that does a check of a list of isbns on the catalogue via the telnet interface and pulls back record numbers of any hits found. You are welcome to it if you wish.

regards

Alan

Colin.

Depends how many items there are in the spreadsheet as to whether to script it or not - e.g. you could have it as a summer project for someone to manually check?

If you wanted a scripted solution you could use PHP_YAZ and your Z39.50 server to search on Field Attribute 7 - ISBN (or Field Attribute 5 - Title). But there may still be some manual checking involved if there are false positives.

Best,
James

Colleagues,

I have a (very neat) spreadsheet of content from a small campus library. (Title, authors, ISBN). Is there  a way to match this against my Millennium database and identify quickly what we already have?

Fingers crossed.

Colin.
