Hi All
Many of you will have received the Geological Society's newsletter (relevant item with links pasted below). The Geol Soc is having themed years, with 2015 as the year of mud – you will have seen that Ernie Rutter, Julian Mecklenburgh and Kevin Talyor are organising a TSG-badged conference at the Geol Soc on Shale Geomechanics and Petrophysics later this year.
Could I invite anyone thinking of submitting a Tectonics and Structural Geology themed meeting to the year of water to consider co-badging with TSG? If you'd like to float ideas past the TSG committee we'd be happy to give advice on pitching a meeting. There's no closing date, but the Geol Soc like to have proposals at least 12 months in advance of a meeting.
Cheers
Zoe

Themed years are at the heart of the Society’s science strategy<http://report.mynewsletterbuilder.com/t.js?s=555b2247af52259b7d001ce6&u=34211525&v=3&key=6480&skey=237dd594df&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.geolsoc.org.uk%2FScienceStrategy%3Futm_medium%3Demail%26utm_source%3DMyNewsletterBuilder%26utm_content%3D%23subscriber_id%23%26utm_campaign%3DThe%2BGeological%2BSociety%2Bof%2BLondon%2BNewsletter%2B-%2BIssue%2B258%2B1412366671%26utm_term%3Dthe%2BSocietys%2Bscience%2Bstrategy>, and throughout 2016 we will explore a wide range of water-related geoscience through research conferences, lectures, our education programme and other activities.
Science Committee is now inviting proposals for conferences to take place during 2016 on any geoscience topic related to water.
Meetings might focus on areas of application such as:
* Securing fresh water supplies
* Mitigating flood risk
* Or the role of water in extracting shale gas or safely disposing of our nuclear waste
Or they might address the important role of water in fundamental geological processes such as;
* Deep mantle processes
* Ore genesis in hydrothermal systems
* Or the role of water in the geology of Mars and other planets
