Dear Colleagues,
Apologies if you receive this information by more than one route.
As part of the Geological Society of London's 'Year of Mud' activities the Tectonic Studies Group will host a 2 day conference on
Geomechanics and Petrophysics of Shale
To be held at the Geological Society Meeting Rooms
Burlington House, Piccadilly, London
On 16 (starting late morning) and 17 November 2015
Convenors:
Ernie Rutter, Julian Mecklenburgh and Kevin Taylor (University of Manchester),
Zoe Shipton (University of Strathclyde).
Given the possible development of a shale gas industry in the UK and the importance of applying the most up to date science to it, this conference is particularly timely. Shales also present a range of particular geo-engineering problems. The meeting will examine all aspects of shale Mechanical and Petrophysical behaviour, strength, ductility, creep and their relationships to mineralogy, texture and anisotropy, hydraulic fracture and fracture mechanics, elasticity, permeability, and applications to shale gas exploitation, the role of shale as a reservoir cap rock, and aspects of geological engineering involving shales.
Keynote speakers:
Julia Gale (Univ Texas, Austin), Hydraulic Fracturing.
Alexandra Amann-Hildenbrand (Aachen, Germany), Gas Transport through Shales. permeability.
Peter Lee (Manchester University and Imperial College London), Microstructural Imaging.
Jeff Wilson (James Hutton Institute, Aberdeen ), Clay Minerals and Shale Stability.
Andrew Aplin (Durham University), Shale porosity.
Abstract deadline for the submission of proposed oral or poster presentations is 31 May 2015, and these should be submitted (max 400 words) to [log in to unmask], who is also able to provide any additional information required.
