Dear Biochem Community
Yes the NLMC will help define those tests that are of clinical value but of greater immediate importance is revising the current Pathology Bounded Code List. Over the past two years ther have been 638 deletions of outmoded tests or ambiguous terms or specification for specific use of an entry. There have been 468 additions - some of these relate to the need to add analysed sample types in order that a specific unit of measurementcan be ascribed to each item - an ongoing task! There are currently 2877 report items - so the level of change has been considerable.
The next release involves some 110 changes of which 30 are new entries and the rest removal of outmoded tests, duplications and ambiguous terms.
Unfortunately it appears at present as if there is insufficient funding for this College role to continue and perhaps even the latest set of changes may not be implemented

The evidenced based
deprecation of laboratory tests that were of little or no
value was always an objective in the governance around the
National Pathology

There will probably be an
RCPath representative on the project already.
