Dear Colleagues,
We cordially invite you to submit your abstract to the joint annual meeting
of the DGGV and the DMG “DYNAMIC EARTH - from Alfred Wegener to today and
beyond, held from October, 4th – 7th, 2015 in the Henry Ford Bau of the
Freie Universität Berlin.
We are offering an attractive program. We will be reviewing the
scientific findings and impact of Alfred Wegener's seminal book “The Origin
of Continents and Oceans”, the invention of plate tectonics, and the
consequences for mankind today.
Our meeting will begin on Sunday, October 4th, with a public
movie presentation of Kurt Stüwe’s airplane flight to Greenland “in the
footprints of Alfred Wegener”, and a public lecture “Das Weltbild der
Geowissenschaften – von Alfred Wegener bis heute” by Celal Sengör
(Istanbul).
Plenary lectures will be given by Dan McKenzie (Cambridge), Maureen Raymo
(Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory), Barbara Romanowicz (IPG Paris), and
Trond Torsvik (University of Oslo). Topical sessions will cover the
geological, mineralogical, and geophysical processes and consequences of
plate tectonics (e.g. subduction, planetary plate tectonics and cratering,
impact on climate and diversity) and the consequences of Wegeners findings
for mankind (e.g. energy and mineral resources, georisks, human habitat). A
thematic highlight is our historical symposium on the life and the
scientific achievements of Alfred Wegener.
The abstract submission is now open and closes on April, 28th, 2015. For
more information, please visit www.geoberlin2015.de.
We are looking forward to meeting you in Berlin in October!
