Not in speadsheet format, but the annual World Factbook book provides
information on the history, people, government, economy, geography,
communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for
267 world entities.
It's prepared by the CIA "for the use of U.S. government officials, and
its style, format, coverage, and content are primarily designed to meet
their requirements. It is frequently used as a resource for academic
research papers."
