Dear all,
Last summer, I spent my time writing a general introduction book to design, dedicated to a large French-speaking audience. Perhaps some of you remember that, while I was writing, I requested your help on this list about some various points (one of them was about the difference between 'design thinking research' and 'Design Thinking' trend). I would like to thank them warmly.
Today, I am pleased to announce that the book has been released in France a few weeks ago. It is entitled "Le design" and published at Presses Universitaires de France, in the well-known series "Que sais-je ?" founded in 1941 (each book in this series must have not more than 128 pages). It is the #3991 book of the series. You can get more information and the table of contents on the publisher page : http://www.puf.com/Que_sais-je:Le_design (see also Amazon.fr : http://www.amazon.fr/design-St%C3%A9phane-Vial/dp/2130620434/)
This book may appear french-centered, even if I made lots of efforts in order to provide a global overview on our discipline by quoting for instance Andrea Branzi, Tim Brown, Nigel Cross, Klaus Krippendorff, Don Norman, Bill Moggridge, Victor Papanek, Dan Saffer, Herbert Simon and much more. The foreword of the book is written by my dear colleague and friend Prof. Alain Findeli and gives a good first idea of it.
The book includes also a set of drawings, such as: Pennsylvania Railroad S1 by Raymond Loewy, TGV Atlantique by Roger Tallon, Up 5 seat by Gaetano Pesce, Macintosh by Apple, Braun SK5 by Dieter Rams or Priscila Huggable Atomic Mushroom by Dunne & Raby.
If you the opportunity to read French, feel free to let me know what you think about it.
Best wishes,
^^
