HI Ian,
We use Intellident units, but we have never used PIN's. We decided against it when we launched self-issue as it would slow down the 'queue busting' process we wanted. We felt that as cards are used for various other functions at the Uni such as door access and paying for food, that if a card was lost the student reports it pretty quick and IT stop the use of the card.
Having said that, we have never had a report of anyone misusing a card - that might be because we are a small institution and have a very trusting student body.
But it certainly makes things a lot easier without students having to remember another number combination.

Subject: PINs for self-issue
Hi,
Another request for the wisdom of the list!
We've had a suggestion that we should use PINs as well as the user barcode for self-issue on our 3M self-service machines. The idea is that this would prevent lost cards being misused. Does anyone else do this? If so, how does it work? Is it accepted by your users? Or have you deliberately decided against it, and if so why?
I'll summarise for the list if there are a lot of replies!
Thanks in anticipation,
Ian
