Subject: Searching for performers for Helsinki Word Festival, November 2015
Hello, petcers!
I'm coming out of lurking mode on this list to ask you all for a favor.
I'm organizing a three-day poetry festival with the association I work for, the Helsinki Poetry Connection. It's called the Helsinki Word Festival (just "Word" for short), November 12-14, and we're looking for international poets or other verbal performance artists to headline or otherwise perform on at least one of the festival evenings. I already asked spoken word sensation Scroobius Pip, but he can't come as he's taking a year off from performing. Names he suggested include Polarbear and Kate Tempest.
Do any of you know of anyone -- or would any of you be interested in coming to Finland to perform poetry on stage for us? Anybody here know Kate, or have her email? Our audience is very international and gifted at English (and other languages), and our festival lineup would not be complete without some top-tier international acts. We would pay for flights (as long as they're not too expensive -- Australia and the States are probably out, unfortunately), pay a performance fee and set the performer up at a hotel during his or her stay.
This is the third year that we're organizing Word, and it's been a triumph both times previously. I'd really appreciate any views on this, and suggestions if you can muster some. Thank you!

In the meanwhile, I've been hard at work translating Finnish poets into English. I'm set to receive three different small grants for translating three poets: spoken word artist Harri Hertell, author Maaria P ivinen and
-- most importantly -- Finnish poet legend Arto Melleri. I'm writing my Master's thesis on translating Melleri's work into English from a performative and translatorial perspective. If I get round to it I'd be happy to post some of my raw and/or final translations of these talented poets here on PoetryEtc.
Happy Shrovetide, all!
Best,
Kasper
